THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRADEMARKS, COPYRIGHTS, AND PATENTS
I’ve coached a few clients through the trademark process and in the beginning, there’s usually some confusion about how to protect their product or service. So the image below is a great illustration of the difference between the 3 types of protections.
Explanation
PATENT Protects the invention. (Example: The components of the TV that make it unique.)
TRADEMARK Protects the brand for the good or service. (Example: The source of this particular TV.)
COPYRIGHT Protects original artistic works. (Example: The TV commercial of the TV.)
